would seem there is no reason to deny a historical basis to Justin’s account of his studies and conversion, which may have occurred shortly before the Bar-Cochba rising in 132 C.E. His was a typical experience of the age as pupils, in the second century, passed from teacher to teacher as a matter of course in their search for philosophical truth.
